Dear (and much missed!) Students,
It is time for the weather to start slowly changing and for a variety of routines to return. In other words enough of this heat wave!
I am very much looking forward to our vocal studio practice beginning soon.
What I will be offering in the Fall Term…
1) ongoing vocal maintenance in Slipper Camp
2) solo exploration and communal support through 2-hour Group Classes
3) ongoing Privates
4) Song Study in the late fall. In the New Year I will offer Repertoire Study – more on that below.
Please let my wonderful administrative team of Lauren and Alaine know what you would like to sign up for through contacting them at email@example.com.
If you need to email me directly use firstname.lastname@example.org please!
PS. Please note the ‘Reminders’ section even if you have read it before… as a reminder!
Fall Term Schedule
1) Slipper Camp
It is important to understand that Slipper Camps are for maintenance and intended for students who are familiar with my pedagogy and approach to the voice. I am not really ’teaching’ during them nor focussing on individual student’s needs. To attend Slipper Camp you need to have had at least one private lesson with me. It is better if you have had more or if you have, or are, attending Group Classes around the same time. If you have questions about whether or not you should come talk to me!
TUESDAYS 4:15 – 5:15pm
September 15th – December 15th
FRIDAYS 9:15 – 10:15am
September 18th – October 30th, December 4th, 11th and 18th
There are a total of 24 sessions over 14 weeks. I will sell the Slipper Camps in packs of 5 for $12 per class ($60). I would like students to come once or even twice a week. Please aim to use 5 classes in 5 weeks time, though I realize that there will be some slippage in this. IT IS FREQUENCY THAT MAKES SLIPPER CAMPS WORK. This is something I am trying to encourage through the price and flexibility. You do not need to sign up… just show up!
I ask students to use a 5 pack within 8 weeks maximum. If there are any extenuating circumstances speak to me about them please.
If you are also in a Group Class this fall you could use your SC pack before and after the 4 group class weeks and have some serious ongoing exploration and practice over 2 months.
*Reminder that you do not have to sign up prior to any Slipper Class; your name and date will be recorded when you purchase your pack of 5 and at the beginning of each class attendance will be taken.
2) Group Class
I am scheduling several ‘4 class’ packages. In small groups we will explore our voices more deeply through healthy catharsis and get into the nitty gritty of the technique that I use in Slipper Camp. We get to look at prejudices we hold around voice and discover the true feel and sound of each person’s instrument. Please choose only one of the three packages so that everyone gets a chance at Group Class – if there is additional space you may do a second class. Let us know if this is what you would like. If necessary I will add a fourth series. Also, consider doing Slippers when you are not doing Group, or taking on Song Study when you are not in a group class. I think a variety of formats makes for deeper reliable learning. Groups are typically 5 – 6 students.
Each series of four is $160.
WEDNESDAYS 9:30 – 11:30am
October 7, 14, 21, 28
WEDNESDAYS 3 – 5pm
November 4, 11, 18, 25
FRIDAYS 10:30 – 12:30pm
November 6, 13, 20, 27
*Please email with your first and second choice for classes, as well as indicating which Group Class you would like to do a second class if it becomes available.
One on one attention for one hour. The price is $100. Duos and trios are also possible as well, time and price will be adjusted (75 minutes/ $125)
Please contact me directly to schedule a date and time.
4) Song Study
Song study is for a group ranging in size from 6 – 12 students. It is a choir-like context in which I go into technical and dramaturgical detail as we learn each song. We typically learn a verse and chorus for two songs in each session. We begin by warming up together. It’s a great way to start the week!
This year Song Study will run for SIX consecutive weeks. The series of six is $210.
MONDAYS 4 – 6pm
November 2nd – December 14th
N.B. In the New Year I will be offering Repertoire Classes in the same weekly time slot in January and February. Exact dates TBD.
In these classes each student brings in a solo song. We will work on 3 songs a week and I lead a warm up to start. The class will have 6 – 8 participants. Exact numbers will determine how many songs each person works on. There is so much to learn when watching another singer engage with a song, and taking risks in front of a group. This deepens our abilities on many levels.
