Hello dear students,

I have been missing you and am very happy to reach out to you with news and offerings for this fall. 

The BIG STUDIO NEWS is that on July 30th eleven amazing and dedicated individuals completed the inaugural 2-year Emotionally Integrated Voice teacher training programme. Congratulations to Jill Bodak, Jeysa Caridad, Aviva Chernick, Susanna Hood, Alex Fallis, Sheila Goldman, Lesley Greco, Megan Johnson, David Reale, Gabriel Pasculli, and Kate Ziegler. I am so proud of each of them! 

Even though I will not be teaching Small Groups in my home studio or online until January 2024 we have several exciting formats available this fall. In combination they provide excellent vocal growth and maintenance.

1.SLIPPER CAMPS – The usual 1-hour version on Tuesday evenings at 7:15 and a 30-minute version on Friday mornings at 9am. These will be recorded and available asynchronously.

SMALL TREAT – we recorded two 30+ minute slipper camps during the teacher training weeks this summer to give you something fresh to end your summer with. They have been automatically uploaded to the May slipper showcase. If you wish to access the two short ones over the next month and do not have the May package see below. A fresh batch of fall slipper camps will start dropping mid-September.

2. 3-HOUR LARGE STUDIO CLASSES – approximately once a week at Arraymusic in downtown Toronto (155 Walnut Ave). 1) full body vocal exercises, 2) time around the piano (including individual focus), and 3) the learning of a song. I will co-teach with one or two EIV grads. I suggest doing 2 or 3 of these classes this fall.

NB the first September classes will prioritize basics for students new and old. 

3. A DAY AWAY – a 5-hour retreat in the Caledon Hills. One in mid-September and one in mid-October. Similar to Large Studio classes with the addition of 1) ‘voice and nature tasks’ and, 2) solo and group improvisation.  

I will teach or co-teach most of the above offerings. You will get to know my grads when they teach with me and/or handle a few of the sessions on their own. Woohoo!

SAVE THE DATE – Book Event! September 21st from 6:30 – 8:30pm at The Labour of Love on Carleton street. Regina Sheung – a visionary proprietress who has made her shop a cultural hub – is hosting a convivial evening in which I will read, include some singing, and maybe even answers to questions! It is an opportunity to buy a copy (or two!) of my book RECLAIMING CALLIOPE: Freeing the Female Voice through Undomesticated Singing without resorting to Amazon. Details in the next mail out. 
 

For those of you who would like to take some Group Classes (in the classic format with 5-7 students per class) my EIV Teacher Grads will be offering a selection of these in-person and online in October and November. Info about these classes will be available in the coming weeks.

I hope these formats work well for you and appreciate your understanding as I step back to re-centre the studio, deal with book outreach, and take care of my health.

FALL TERM:  September 11 – December 15

Slipper Camp Pack 1: September 12- October 3 = $75 + HST
Slipper Camp Pack 2: October 10- October 31 = $75 + HST
Slipper Camp Pack 3 November 3 – November 24 = $75 + HST
Slipper Camp Pack 4: November 28 – December 15 = $65 + HST
Single Large Studio Class = $65 + HST*
(if you are an artsworker and would like the artsworker rate, specify a price between $50 and $65 that is feasible for you)

A Day Away Workshop Retreat Sunday September 17 or Sunday October 15   = $150 + HST (Artsworker sliding scale $130-150) per day

2. If you would like 2 Large Studio classes please list at least 4 time slots you can make in order of priority (list more if you can, it helps us get you into a class! If you want 3 classes, please list at least 6 options if possible.)

PRIVATES 

One on one attention for one hour.

COST: $110-130
(no HST, sliding scale)

Choose the rate that is feasible for you.
Duos and trios are also possible as well, time and price will be adjusted.

Please email fidesbooking@gmail.com to schedule dates and times for Private sessions. Fides will respond directly. Typical Private times are weekdays between 9am and 5pm at times not occupied by Group Classes.

Please note:

• Cancellation Policy: Before the payment deadline, you will receive a full refund minus $10 admin fee. After the payment deadline, there is no guaranteed refund but if we can fill your spot we may be able to arrange a partial refund on a case-by-case basis.
• If you have an In-Person spot and you need to switch to a Zoom spot last minute because you are feeling unwell or have been exposed, there is no penalty, just send us an email and let us know.

PLEASE BE ON TIME

Please do your best to arrive on time and avoid leaving class early. Late arrivals and early departures are disruptive to the rhythm of small classes.

SCENT-FREE REMINDER
Now that In-Person classes are running again, just a reminder that Fides’ studio is a Scent-Free space. Please don’t wear perfume, cologne, or products with strong fragrances such as hairspray or essential oils to class. These can cause asthma symptoms, migraines, and perhaps most confusingly, allergic reactions that closely resemble COVID in many people.

Clothing
A reminder to wear comfortable/loose clothing that you can breathe and move easily in. Bring socks or slippers for your comfort.
